The portal, in brief
The Mission Control Portal is Telnyx’s single console. Self-service setup is the product’s identity, and the portal is where all of it happens. You buy and set up numbers there. You create SIP trunking credentials and IP allowlists. You manage messaging profiles, check your balance, and pull invoices. You also create the API keys for anything you run in code. If you only ever touch the API, the portal is still where billing truth lives.
Do the security settings first
Telnyx documents two-factor authentication (2FA) in the portal’s account security settings. There are two methods. The first is a TOTP authenticator app, which Telnyx recommends. The second is a one-time code by SMS, call, or WhatsApp. Backup codes are issued once at setup. Store them like the credentials they are. 2FA is available, not forced by default, so turning it on is your job. A carrier portal is exactly the kind of account that deserves it. Whoever holds it controls your numbers, your traffic, and your caller-ID identity.
When the login won’t work
- Confirm it’s you, not them. Telnyx’s status page lists the portal (UI and API) as its own component. Portal-login incidents have appeared in its history log. Our Telnyx status guide covers how to read it.
- Password reset. Use the link on the sign-in page if your credentials are the issue.
- 2FA lockouts. This is what those backup codes were for. Without them, you go through a support verification flow. It is slower by design.
- Wrong door. API authentication failures are a different problem from portal login. API keys are managed inside the portal. A revoked or expired key fails your scripts, not your sign-in.
The five-minute audit worth doing while you’re in
Since you’re logging in anyway, pull last month’s invoice and your CDR export. Then check three numbers.
- Effective rate per connected minute. Divide total voice spend by connected minutes. On 60/60 billing with short average calls, this usually runs well above the face rate.
- Leg fees. Check whether Call Control’s $0.002/min is riding traffic that could be pure trunking.
- Number-fleet fees. Check whether your volume tier matches your actual number count.
